Fabric knowledge: An Overview of the Polar Fleece

Polar fleece is a kind of knitted fabric. This fabric is a small treasure knitting structure, knitted in a large circular machine, woven into the blank fabric first by high temperature and high-pressure dyeing, and then by brushing, combing, shearing, shaking grain, and other complex finishing processes. The front of the fabric is brushed with fluffy and dense polar fleece, its other side is brushed with a sparse and short pile of fluff. It is the first choice to keep out the cold in winter. In addition, polar fleece can also be combined with all fabrics to keep out the cold, for example, composite of fleece and fleece, composite of fleece and denim, composite of fleece and lamb, composite of fleece and mesh cloth with waterproof and breathable film, and so on.

Development of polar fleece

The polar fleece was first produced in Taiwan, China in the early 1990s. In the mid-1990s, Quanzhou, Fujian Province also began to produce polar fleece. They are generally Taiwan technology. At that time, the price was relatively high. Later, in Zhejiang and Jiangsu, Changshu, Wuxi, and Changzhou areas also started to produce polar fleece.

Looking at our domestic polar fleece production level, the quality of polar fleece in Jiangsu is better, and the price of polar fleece in Zhejiang is better. In general, the price of polar fleece is lower than that of tweed fabric. Now there are many clothes and scarves made directly from all-polyester 150D96F polar fleece. Generally, the quality of polar fleece is not too high when it comes to lining garments.

What is the difference between polar fleece and ordinary fabric? What are the advantages?

It is a small ingot knitting structure, knitted on a large circular machine, and the grey cloth is dyed first, and then processed by various complex finishing processes, such as pulling, carding, shearing, shaking, etc., and the fabric is plucked on the front, fluffy and dense, but not easy to shed and pilling on the reverse side, short fluff, clear texture, and good fluffy elasticity.

It is the first choice for nearly two domestic products to protect against cold in winter. In addition, there are plain fleece and printed fleece, and plain fleece can be divided into striped fleece, embossed fleece, jacquard polar fleece, and so on, depending on individual requirements. Depending on the paddle material used for printing, there are more than 200 varieties of printed fleece, such as infiltration printing, rubber paddle printing, and transfer printing with colored stripes.

In terms of the price of polar fleece, the width of polar fleece in China is generally around 150CM, some are as wide as 230CM, and the grammage varies from 180 to 450 grams. The price takes into account the cost of raw materials, weaving, weaving loss, dyeing, dyeing loss, and finishing work. In terms of fabric price, the cheapest price is also in the Zhejiang market, but Changshu in Jiangsu Province is also relatively cheap. Now the polar fleece fabric already belongs to the low-grade price, high grade enjoys the mass fabric.

What’s the difference between compound polar fleece and the double-side polar fleece?

Composite fleece is made of two kinds of the fleece of the same quality or different quality, which are processed by a compound machine and glued together. Double-sided polar fleece is treated by double-sided pilling whose price is generally a little higher for composite fleece.

Polar fleece is very ash absorption, and other clothes washed together will stick! How to avoid it?

Polar fleece absorbs ash, probably because its own fibers have static electricity, which absorbs and floats, bringing dust to fabrics or clothes, but generally mixing with other clothes will not stick together. And the things that stick together may be particles on the fleece. Avoidance is impossible because it is about the fiber of the fabric itself, but now experts have developed an additive, that is, antistatic auxiliaries, which can reduce the ash absorption of fleece when finishing the fabric.

How to distinguish the quality of fleece?

First of all, you need to be clear about what it is used for, such as making blankets, clothes, etc. In general, the long fiber fleece for making blankets is in the majority. The price of short-fiber fleece is slightly higher than that of long-fiber fleece. Staple fiber fleece is generally made of 32s polyester yarn.

Long fiber fleece is generally made of polyester filament and can be woven with all-polyester (150D96F, 150D48F, 150D144F, 150D288F, 75D72F, 75D144F, 100D144F, 100D288F, and so on). It is called 100% polyester filament polar fleece. In general, the higher the F value, the better the fabric, and the higher the price of fleece. For example, 100D144F, 150D144F, and other fleece, already belong to ultra-fine fleece. Long fiber fleece can be divided into DTY and FDY. Their English expression is (100% polyester Micro-polar fleece). In terms of origin, the quality of Shanghai is higher than that of Kunshan, Changzhou, and Jiangyin in Jiangsu Province.

What is the difference between fleece and woolen?

Polar fleece feels soft, and there are obvious particles, and the composition of the material generally contains hair, under normal circumstances, it feels hard.

Good wool is soft and smooth, with a smooth and oily feeling; and it can also be divided into many kinds: for example, pure wool and chemical fiber wool. Pure wool has a soft and shiny color, while chemical fiber has a darker gloss; pure wool feels soft, while chemical fiber is stiff and not soft; pure wool has good elasticity and good recovery, while chemical fiber has obvious creases after grasping and relaxing.

Some people say that polar fleece is easy to cause asthma, is that so? What’s the basis?

In fact, this is based on whether the individual’s skin can accept this kind of fabric because the main raw material of this fabric is polyester. In my opinion, the choice of clothing materials, wool underwear, duck down vests, animal fur clothing, and chemical fiber materials such as acrylic fiber and polyester fiber is easy to cause allergies, urticaria, and asthma attacks. Therefore, the underwear of patients with asthma or patients with a history of this kind of disease should be made of pure cotton fabric that should be smooth, soft, and smooth. And bedding should also use less silk cotton and down products.

Do you have polar fleece in pure cotton? Can I make a blanket with it?

All-cotton polar fleece is available in China, but it is rare, and it is technically difficult to check, especially when pilling.

Is polar fleece more used in the lining of clothes?

Yes, generally the quality of the lining is not too high. In fact, there are a lot of clothes and scarves made directly from polar fleece, and most of them are made of all-polyester 150D96F polar. There are also shoes and toys made of polar fleece. In addition, it can be used as bedding, carpet, coat, jacket, vest, windbreaker, cheerleader logo, fleece gloves, scarf, hat, pillow, cushion, and so on.
